my brother was 31 when he had his rare stroke it's been 18 months. he can only move his neck and everything on his face. every once in a while he has moved a finger slightly or his arm but he can't tell. He has 2 kids ages 4 and 3. his 4 yr old just had a graduation to reg. kindergarten and wasn't able to be there b/c he's in the hospital had some set backs and a couple surgeries. His 2nd wedding anniversary just passed too both spent in the hospital. He was home with his family for a while but like I said had some set backs in March was supposed to come home June 2nd (his anniversary) but now has an infection and Dr wont let him go. He is now demanding to go home saying he is a grown man and makes his own decisions. he's really fed up with it all and wants to go home really bad. We think he just thinks it's been so long sense he had the stroke and has made little to no improvements and keeps getting these set backs that it's just not ment for him to get better. We tell him that the brain is one huge mistery and it makes new pathways around the ones that have been damaged and can also regenerate un-used brain cells. there have also been studies that proved that people who imagine themselves and dream of themselves doing everyday things like walking and moving their arms have actually gotten better. What my question is .. we need motivation for him some pick me ups .. something ..he's just done with it all and really pissed off. i mean I would be too .. anyone would be after everything he keeps dealing with.. i feel so bad for him .... on the other hand sometimes I just want to be a complete B**** and be like enough is enough stop feeling sorry for yourself stop being pissed off at the world you can't go back in time and re-do this it's already done it sucks I know but DO something about it! Youw ant to get better then kick your own A** and do it GET better you can .. you know you can .. just DO IT! .. cause right now I think you don't really want to get better you want to sit here sleep all day listen to TV and have everyone do everything for you ... cause if you DID really want to get better you would do anything and everything you could ........... sorry I know that's just really mean to think of saying to him but I sometimes wonder if me or someone needs to just stop being nice to him stop feeling sorry for him and be a jerk to him so he get's mad and pushes himself to get better.. I mean If i were to say that to him and he just got up and punched me in the face I would get up and hug him ... i dunno I need something to help him ..when everything starts going good for him he get's knocked down
yeah you guys are all right.. yes I needed to vent but my family walks on eggshells and are soft themselves no back bones with the exception of my sister. anyway he has been doing PT and OT and the electroids and it has loosen him up some but he just keeps getting sent back to the hospital for being sick this last time in march (still there) he went in b/c part of his intestines had lost blood and were to damaged.. had to have surgery to remove part of them..... I dunno I don't live in the same state as he is I don't see him very often just when I go to visit .. but my family thinks he needs positive re-assurance other then other stroke victims stories.
oh and yes we do know he'll never be the same but mentally he is the same person that wasn't affected at all it's just his mobility.
