My mom had heard on a home improvement show that you can use car wax to clean wood cabinets. Has anyone ever heard of this, or if so, if there's anything special that needs to be done to it? Also, if there's a better way to get out thick grime from wood cabinets, could you please let me know? Thanks in advance!
I have never done it with car wax, nor heard that you can, but it sort of makes sense. There are wood waxes you can buy that are specifically made to shine up the cabinets that will probably work better than car wax though.
If you have a sticky layer of grime you should clean them with regular cleaner. Maybe dish detergent and water, diluted Mr Clean, or whatever you use typically to clean in the kitchen.
I use vegetable oil and lemon juice in a 1:1 ratio to clean the wood of the cabinets. The lemon juice is what does the cleaning though, so you might want to make yours 2 parts lemon juice and one part water to cut the grime. Put it in a spray bottle, shake it up and wipe away. It will keep for 6 months. The oil brings a shine to the cabinets. My cabinets are unfinished (stained) wood so it works for them. I clean them 1-2 times a year. If yours have a finish it might work differently.
